Not A Wedding Photographer #005

There can be a tendency to think that if a photograph doesn’t have a bride and groom present, it’s then not a ‘wedding photo’ at all. That the occasion is purely about the marriage of two people, and so for a photo not to contain at least one of these individuals (usually “the bride”), it simply can’t be a “wedding photo”.

You’ll agree that this idea is pretty outdated and very one dimensional.

The thing is, your wedding is about more than just yourself, or your partner. Or the legal binding itself. It’s about all of the people in your life; your best friend, your mum, dad, your brother. Your shared history and memories, and your hopes and dreams for the future.

It’s about living in the now, and immersing yourself in the experience.

So when I’m there, observing all which is happening and photographing at exactly the right second… you’ll be experiencing it, living fully in the moment – this is when life happens. It’ll be real. Raw. Nuanced. There will be joyful, tearful moments that make your heart race, and others that’ll be more subtle, characterful moments. They’re all intensely personal because of the choice you’ve made to experience the occasion in the most organic way possible.

And because of exactly what I’m seeing and photographing.

After the wedding, we’ll have the photographs, like this one below.

You may have guessed, you’re not in it. But you’re more present than most people.

You’re soaking in the atmosphere, having real, unscripted fun. And so are your friends and family. They’re all present.

Making real memories.
