In the days where we have almost anything you can think of at your fingertips 24hrs a day, the urgency to make things as quickly and as cheaply as possible is ever present.
So when someone decides to break that trend people tend to notice.
Because it’s the easiest thing to be the sheep that makes all the same noises as the rest of the herd. That’s part of why Harris Tweed commands respect; they do things differently.
Handwoven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides. They haven’t taken the easy way out, but instead stand by things sometimes forgotten – like integrity and reputation.
And you know what? I like what they stand for, and I like what they do.
Everything they produce is marked by their certified orb (which is protected by parliament, don’t you know?). It doesn’t seem such a huge leap to compare it to the photography I make. I oversee every aspect; nothing is outsourced in order to be ‘cut costs’, and the images themselves are crafted with thought, to guarentee they maintain that authentic quality that I know is so important, compared to the conveyor belt approach elsewhere. And of course, everything is signed off, approved by my hand and eye only.
