When to Save the Date?

Wedding Planning Tip #2

After all, most of your plans are going to revolve around the intimate celebration which is your wedding day, and spending quality time with the most important people in your life. It’s not like you just take a stab at your diary and say “they’ll do, now come gasp at my magnificence! (or at least my clients don’t).

Sure, there are always limits to how many can fit inside a venue, and some tough decisions are needed, but when it comes down to it the your guests are really important to you. They make up some of the history of your lives and may have even introduced the two of you.

So I find it a bit unusual that the throw away advice for “Saving the Date” mostly seems to involve a mathematical equation. Usually very definitively “exactly 6 months before and not a moment later” or “the Wednesday after the second full moon passes over the grassy knoll”.

Thankfully it’s not that complicated or bizarre.

The best choice for insuring your loved ones can make it to your celebration is simply letting them know as soon as possible.

As soon as you have a date with your venue/registrar/location, in fact, is when you should be sending out a Save the Date. Just think about any engagement in your calendar, being able to commit to it is always easier when you’re told further in advance. So if you’re told about a particularly exciting and meaningful occasion on the horizon, for two really important people in your life, you’ll want to lock that down as soon as possible. That means, as long in advance as possible.

It just makes life easier for everyone.
